
Jazmine Sullivan is a native of in and was raised within Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her mother Pam is a former backup singer for Philadelphia International Records. At the age of five, young, her father got job as curator of City's Historic Strawberry Mansion in the Strawberry Mansion section, and her family relocated to the mansion's historical site. In 2005 she graduated from the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts with a vocal music major. Sullivan was a contralto for the choir for children and later just a few years later, she performed in the adults ' choir. Sullivan's exposure to secular music was at first sporadic "I performed solo at church and someone wanted me to join an evangelical label when I was 11, but I was not prepared to sign that contract," she recalls. Then, McDonald's held a contest for children in large cities. I had the opportunity to sing "Accept the Grace of God" in it's Showtime at the Apollo. And the public was extremely supportive. When she was 13 years old, she performed in a duet with Stevie Wonder for his grandson's birthday celebration. Sullivan was signed initially to Jive Records at the age 15. Sullivan was initially signed by Jive Records at the age 15. She recorded an entire album but this album was never released. Sullivan was eventually removed from the label. She had a good working relations and Missy Elliott. Elliott produced several of her songs such as "Backstabbers", which was produced by Timbaland.
